Our insurance told us where to go, only to find out, after a taxi ride there, that the urgent care didn't like our insurance. They advised us to go to an emergency room. With the pain increasing in Colby's foot, the security at the urgent care called for another taxi...twice. If you are traveling in a large city, forget about taxis (a lesson learned) and instead set up an uber account. Finding out that no taxi wanted our fare, Colby downloaded the Uber apps, set up an account, and had a car in front of us in less than ten minutes. And the cost was cheaper than a taxi! Thank you. Uber!
Emergency, of course, seemed to take forever, but the diagnosis was what we feared, an infection. Antibiotics were prescribed, but late Sunday night, even in a place like Washington DC, is a terrible time to try to find a pharmacy! After failed attempts, we decided his second dose (the first was given at the hospital) would have to wait until I could get to a pharmacy in the morning. Another Uber ride got us to our room a bit before midnight and we crashed.
Up early Monday morning I hoofed it to a pharmacy about a mile away that was open at 8 a.m. Once again our insurance was not recognized and there was no way to have the medication covered. Not having many options I paid the full amount and decided to deal with insurance later (actually it will probably be Sandy, she is really good at that sort of thing!). Fortunately, Colby's foot did not look worse, and even seemed better than the night before. We are sitting in the airport waiting to fly out to Iceland, and while the improvement is not dramatic, at least the infection is not moving beyond that drawn lines marking where it was last night. He is also walking and feeling better today, so we are optimistic that this truly is just a minor bump and can be chalked up to the whole adventure.
Nonetheless, we covet your prayers. It was hard enough dealing with all of this in a distant city in the U.S., I can't imagine trying to go through all of this in a foreign city! My prayer is that God will think one big curve at the beginning of the trip will be enough. If he doesn't though, I pray that God will help us cope and do so
with good attitudes!
